One
good example
All MPs are to be given compost bins by Environment Minister A.H.M.Fowzie,
Speaker W.J.M.Lobukandara told Parliament last week.
He said the MPs could set an example by recycling the waste material
in their homes and asked them to collect the bins from the Speaker’s
official residence and take them home. Maybe our MPs will try to
set at least one good example given their less then exemplary behaviour.
Strangest
bedfellows
Politics does make the strangest bedfellows. With 31 of the 39 JVP
MPs now seated on Opposition benches, the once fierce opponents
seem the best of friends. UNP Colombo district MP T. Maheswaran
someone who clashed constantly with JVP MPs while they were on the
other side of the House now seems to be getting on unexpectedly
well with them. Now more than his own party men, it is with the JVP
MPs that he is seen chatting with. May be, something positive will
come out of the new sitting arrangements after all.
Some
don’t fancy it
And like JVP MP Bimal Ratnayake said during one of his speeches,
now that they are closer to the TNA MPs, they have the opportunity
to hear what they have to tell as well. And for the UNP MPs who
had to move to the Government side to accommodate the JVP MPs, they
don’t seem to fancy their new seats too much and are often
seen coming back to their familiar seats. |
