‘Suddilage Kathawa’ back on miniscreen
The film 'Suddilage Kathawa' (The Story of Suddhi) directed by talented director Dharmasiri Bandaranayake was first screened on the silver screen in 1984.

The film was based on the novel by reputed writer Simon Nawagaththegama. The third directorial attempt of Mr. Bandaranayake won rave reviews and awards at Sarasaviya film festival. The main cast in 'Suddilage Kathawa' comprised Swarna Mallawarachchi, Somi Ratnayake and Cyril Wickremage.

The story of Mr. Navagaththegama now made in to thirty one episodic teledrama and it will telecast every Thursday at 9.30 pm on Swarnavahini.
The miniplay is scripted and directed by Nishantha De Alwis.

Set in the dry zone of Sri Lanka Suddhie is married to a notorious criminal in the village, Romial. Convicted for a murder Romial is jailed. Miserable Suddhie has to depend on Sirimewan Mudalalie, a shrewd businessman from town,for her living. They are secretly living together. As a young man Sirimewan was angry with his father who ill treated his mother. One day he fled the village after cracking his father's head.

He managed to fool Arachchila's only sister and got married to her. This was mainly for the respect and the wealth she had inherited. Though had to give the consent for the marriage, Arachchila is angry for what Sirimewan did to his sister. The era of new Gramasewaka system was in progress. Sirimewan's connection with the new Gramasevaka provokes Arachchila. With the new law the landowners would have to share the excess land with the landless.

Sirimewan gets hold of Aushadaya a landless farmer who works under Mudalali and influenced him to ask the landownership from Arachchila.

In the meantime Romial released from jail returns to the village. Arachchila handed him over the contract to destroy Aushadaya. This is by killing Peter, the brother of Aushadaya with whom he had regular quarrels after he gets drunk. When Romial hesitated to get back to violence, Suddhie encourages him to go ahead with the killings. The murder trap ends Arachchila getting killed. Mudalali who silently observes the what is happening around him deceptively get the money belonging to Mudalali.

However Romial who commits the murder regrets on this. He decided to help Peter's wife, who is helpless unaware about the murder. Now after Peter was killed Peter's wife falls in love with Romeial. Meanwhile, Sirimewan Mudalalie and Suddhie too progress with their affair. Peter's wife informed Romial the affair between Mudalalie and Suddhie. Enraged Romial kills Suddhie and with Mudalalies money he runs away with Peter's wife. On their way Romial reveals Peter's wife about killing of her husband.

Jayani Senanayake, Sriyantha Mendis , W Jayasiri, Wijeratne Warakagoda, Gayana Sudarshna, Sanath Wimalasiri, Suraj Mapa, Daya Tennakoon, Rex Kodippili, Deepani Silva, Wilson Karu, Vini Wettasinghe, Sunil Hettiarachchi, G R Perera, Upali Silva, Sarath Peiris, Miuri Samarasinghe, Elan Silvester, Quintus Weerakoon, Netali Nanayakkara, Ranjith De Silva and Getthal Perera star in this teledrama.

Art director is Ranjith de Silva, while Kumara Galmuruwa edited the drama. Camera is handled by Nilantha Choolarathna and music director is Premasiri Kemadas.
