By Yohan Bhasura
A telling third wicket stand of 132 runs between opener Upul Tnaranga
(74 not out) and skipper Russel Arnold saw Sri Lanka ‘A’
taking the five match series at 2-0 (the first game ended in a tie)
in the third game played at the Moratuwa Stadium, yesterday.
After
the Lankan spinners had restricted the visitors to 168 runs on a
drying wicket in the morning session, the Lankan batsmen took control
of the game in the second session in spite of the early loss of
Gunawardena, Kalavitigoda and Jayantha.
Upul
Tharanga in his 63 ball stay at the crease hit eight fours. The
game got off to a late start at 1 p.m. owing to the overnight showers
and was restricted to 35 overs a side. West Indies ‘A’
put into bat got off to a good start putting on 57 runs in their
first ten overs of batting, but with the introduction of spinners
Saman Jayantha and Nandika Ranjith lost momentum and were all out
for 168 runs in 31.5 overs.
For
West Indies ‘A’ skipper Daren Ganga top scored with
a polished knock of 52 runs. while opener Chargoon made 38. The
fourth match of the five match series will take place at the same
venue tomorrow -- the 18th. |
