Brilliant
Sanjay Wettimuny at Ridgeways
The weather Gods have been extremely charitable to the Ridgeways
over the last three competitions. Excellent weather prevailed and
the ‘Joe Boy’ Perera new self claimed turf specialist
has been able to produce great playing conditions for the joy of
all categories of players.
Lexmark’s
Chief Executive, the irrepressible Sanjeewa Wickremanayake stretched
out lavishly to sponsor a splendid tournament for several handsome
trophies and attractive goodies. Last week’s contest was a
rousing success which was followed by a grand buffet dinner and
a classy awards ceremony. The chief guest was Tiang Hin, Country
Manager, Lexmark and the Guest of Honour was Shiran de Soysa, President
Royal Colombo. It was a great night and to some quite intoxicating.
Brilliant
Sanjay
Sidat Wettimuny’s prodigy Sanjay was at his brilliant best
with a stunning round of nett 67. Balanced and positive the tender
teenager played a measured game firmly and miserly protecting his
strokes and coaxing them to super advantage. The result was the
handsome ‘A’ Division Classic. Sanjeewa Wickremanayake
stunning off the tees was quite impressive with 3 under par nett
68.
B
Division
That young fella again Dilip Kodikara was handsome off the tees
and on the greens his accuracy was a pleasure to watch. He tied
with another excellent performer of nett 64 from Chandana Weerasinghe
and went through to win with a better back nine. Following the first
two were Lalin Senadhira and Iror Maharoof on a splendid score of
65 each.
C Division
Another young tremendous performer was Ranjit Jayawardena. He collected
a brilliant nett 63 to not only take the ‘C’ Division
title and trophy but also to register the lowest score for the day.
Errol Weerasinghe, another bright spark, impressed considerably
with nett 66. Lal Dias, the calculator came pretty good and was
popular with nett 68. Shavin Fernando tied with him.
Seniors
Norman Chandraratne, a positive charmer and excellent company at
the 19th, came good after straying for a couple of months. A popular
winner he was as praiseworthy.
Masters
E.de Silva won with nett 68 beating the great personality Don Indran
by one stroke. Hefty Sunil Jayakody needed only 11 strokes to cover
the 4 par 3 holes and collect applause. Bandula Weerasinghe once
again struck a super tee shot to settle closest to the pin on the
9th and collect a handsome award.
Untidy
Again a puerile attempt has been made to suppress detailed results
and also delay its availability. Additionally the handicaps of players
are not given which is quite untidy. The irritating situation that
has re-entered the mental care center of the scene needs to be arrested
even if it becomes necessary to offer a weekend at Apollo to the
person responsible for these provocative directions. I will happily
pick the tab. |
