Lifting
up their voices
By Marisa de Silva
The melodious voices of the Colombo Catholic Youth Choir (CCYC),
directed by Surein D.S. Wijeratne, will ring through the Bishop’s
College auditorium, on August 5 at 7.30 p.m.
The
CCYC performed at an International Choral Festival held in Germany
last year, at which many of its current members participated as
well. CCYC in Concert will feature a mix of modern and classical
praise and worship numbers such as Pie Jesu, The Lord’s Prayer,
Please walk beside me and I give you my heart. They will also sing
pop hits like Toto’s Africa, the best of The Beatles, Bee
Gees and Elton John and popular Sinhala classics such as Danno Budunge.
Their repertoire extends further still, to also include a few songs
they learnt in Germany.
The
choir comprises about 30 Catholic youth, aged from 12-19 years,
from schools including St. Joseph’s College, St. Peter’s
College, Holy Family Convent – Bambalapitiya, St. Bridget’s
Convent, Ladies’ College, Colombo International School and
a few others. The entire troop has been hard at work, practicing,
since around February this year and are now all geared to entertain!
Tickets available at Mabroc Trades (Lanka Hands Building) and at
the entrance. |
