CR’s loss may be Sydney’s gain
Twenty-year-old Rajith Jayasundera, CR and FC’s ‘crack’ centre three-quarter left the country to join Sydney University, Australia to pursue an academic career. He left on July 19.

Rajith a bundle of energy gave a scarlet red performance for the CR and FC last weekend to defeat the unbeaten Kandy SC, in a rousing contest, watched by a mammoth crowd, the biggest seen at Longden Place in recent times. As a schoolboy he did proud for Royal on and off the field. It was a rugby fiesta for the avid fans where CR and FC, revelled against the defending league champions. Kandy played in patches and was never at their best on this day.

Jayasundera, played his last match for the red shirts in the Caltex ‘A’ league.
The Hill Capital Club, which has been on the rampage during the last few seasons, met their Waterloo. Rajith played his heart out. He fired like a bullet, be it in attack or defense when under pressure. In the end he was the toast of all CR fans. After the gruelling game Rajith said “I have gained admission to the Sydney University for a three-year-course for a Bachelor of Commerce degree. I have to adhere to the Royal motto: learn our books and learn to play the game - that, too in the correct spirit”.

Ravi Balasuriya, the president of the CR and FC said, though Rajith will miss the second-leg matches due to his academic career, he’s a real diamond. But the club will sponsor him for the second–leg match against Kandy SC at Nittawela. Further we will make overtures with Dilip Kumar to assist the lad to play in Sydney.
