Sriyani's
Shadows in the Snow
‘Thusharaye Chaya’ (Shadows in the Snow), veteran actress
and teledrama director Sriyani Amerasena's latest miniplay is being
telecast every Sunday 8.15 pm on ITN .
A
co-production between Sri Lanka and Canada- 'Thusharaye Chaya' based
on the world famous Niagara waterfalls has scenes in locations in
Canada. This twenty four episode teledrama is co-produced by Sriyani
herself and Vijith and Merlyn Jayasooriya of Toronto Canada.
Thusharaye
Chaya has a cast of local and Canadian actors including rising stars
Harsha Bulathsinghala and Nilanthi Dias from Colombo and veterans-
like Ajith Jinadasa and Leena De Silva from Canada.
Others
who perform in the drama are Wasanthi Gunaratne, Kanchana Kodituwakku,
Sandun Wijesiri, Grace Ariyavimal, Nirosha Herath, Nuwangi Liyanage
and Sathya Ratnayake.
With
make-up by Sam Perera, Chaminda Hewawasam as art director and Somadasa
Maldeniya joins in assisting Sriyani in the play. Screenplay written
by Thilak Kudahetti and edited by Jagath Weeratunge and musical
score is by Sarath Wickrema.
The
storyline revolves around Milinda and Ayoma who get married after
a few years of courtship. As lovers, the two spent their time blissfully
without giving serious thought to their future or trying to understand
each other. Now a few years after their marriage they have regrets
about their past.
Among
many differences, Ayoma does not wish to have children while Milinda
insists on having a child. This worried and dispirited Milinda who
decides to leave Sri Lanka to live with his only sister in Canada.
Sitha warmly welcomes her brother.
Living
all alone, Ayoma meets Sumith and they realise that their interests
get along with each other. This meeting develops into a close friendship.
But Ayoma makes it a point not to extend their friendship beyond
the limits of a friendship. At the same time Ayoma too begins to
realise certain qualities of her husband Milinda which she never
admired when he was with her.
Meanwhile Milinda in Canada meets Rajitha, a Sri Lankan girl and
her company brings new hopes to his life. However he decides not
to get closer to Rajitha as he is still within wedlock. Milinda
returns to Sri Lanka to obtain legal separation from Ayoma.
Rajitha
lives luxuriously with his father a wealthy businessman. Investing
in a new business Rajitha's father takes a massive loan from, Ramesh
another Sri Lankan businessman in Canada. Due to the failure in
the business Rajitha's father soon faces bankruptcy and thinking
over the money he has borrowed he suffers a fatal heart attack.
Ultimately all the wealth belonging to Rajitha's father transfers
to Ramesh. Ramesh who gets the ownership of Rajitha's father's property
brings a proposal to the impoverished daughter. Rajitha has no other
choice other than agree to the will of Ramesh and they get married.
Settling
the problem his first marriage, Milinda who is unaware about Rajitha's
marriage, returns to Canada with the hope starting a new life with
Rajitha. Hearing of Rajitha's marriage, Milinda gets totally disappointed
and he leaves for Sri Lanka again. Milinda decides to live alone.
What happens to Ayoma and Sumith? Will Rajitha's marriage with Ramesh
last? What happens to Milinda? Thusharaye Chaya would answer all
these. |
