Double
show for CBK at UN
NEW YORK - President Chandrika Kumaratunga will be one of the few
heads of state who will address the United Nations twice next month:
first the summit meeting of world leaders on September 14-16 immediately
followed by the 60th session of the General Assembly beginning September
17.
Just
after her address to the General Assembly, she will hold a UN news
conference. The President will also host a media reception at the
UN Correspondents' Association press room. Besides a series of bilateral
meetings with visiting heads of state, she will also address the
Asia Society of New York.
The
summit, described by Secretary-General Kofi Annan as potentially
"the largest gathering of world leaders ever", will be
attended by about 122 heads of state, 55 heads of government, two
vice presidents and two deputy prime ministers.
