Mervyn’s
club attack case to be reopened
Last year’s case involving Mervyn Silva’s son and his
alleged involvement in an attack on a night club is to be reopened.
The Sunday Times learns the State has filed charges against two
guards of the Brave Guard Security company, accusing them of making
false complaints to the police, a punishable offence.
The
two guards of the company run by former Minister Anuruddha Ratwatte’s
son had first said they saw Mervyn Silva among the crowd that attacked
the club but later said it was someone like Mervyn Silva.
The
two guards, K.A.T.S. Bogahawatte and T.P.N. Fernando are to face
charges in the Magistrate’s court. A spokesman for the Attorney
General’s Department said, “They can’t have it
both ways”.
It
is also alleged that Police statements in connection with the case
were tampered with thus hampering investigations. In the October
incident, the Deputy Minister had allegedly led a mob attack on
Clancy’s night club as well as the Soprano’s karaoke
bar, causing extensive damage to the clubs, after the clubs denied
entry to his son Malaka.
