RRI
employees cry foul, urge inquiry
A group of Rubber Research Institute of Sri Lanka (RRISL) employees
requested the Plantation Industries Minister to hold an immediate
investigation into alleged malpractices in the recent recruitment
of undergraduates to the Institute and other alleged misdeeds.
In
a letter to Minister Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, the employees pointed
out several irregularities in the recruitment of the undergraduates.
They claimed that the examinations were conducted in a disorganised
manner and that they doubted the marking of answer scripts.
They
also claimed that the interview procedures too were unacceptable.
They further alleged that neither the structure, number of papers,
duration, subject nor any other information was provided to the
candidates and instead they were allowed to select the paper they
wished to answer after reading two question papers prepared separately
for agronomists and rubber chemists.
The employees alleged that those who obtained the highest marks
were those connected to the management, with a research officer’s
wife getting the highest marks, an experimental officer close to
the management the second highest and the third highest marks going
to a research student of a senior research officer.
They
said the interviews too were controlled; with some from the panel
not being given the opportunity to question the candidates and afterwards
the marks from the interview being ignored in the selection process.
The group also claimed that a recently recruited administrative
officer had been selected even though he did not possess the required
qualifications. |
