Mathews
to play for Stanmore
“Sri Lanka Under-19 skipper Angelo Mathews who notched the
highest score in the first test against England has been invited
to play for Stanmore CC in the Middlesex League next year (2006)”
said Glucka Wijesuriya, an old Thomian, who played and captained
the Under-16 team, a diehard promoter and supporter of cricket in
Sri Lanka cricket. He runs Stanmore CC and is a key figure at the
Shenley Cricket Centre.
After
watching the first test between Sri Lanka-England he had come this
conclusion. He made overtures to Angelo after watching his heroics
with the willow batting under pressure. Former Sri Lanka's little
dynamo Aravinda de Silva, too played for this club.
