President
to solve Maligawa problems

President Chandrika Kumaratunga said yesterday the Government was
duty bound to develop the Sri Dalada Maligawa.
Addressing
the Diyawadana Nilame and the Basnayake Nilames of the four devalas
at President’s House in Kandy, the President promised to look
into the scarcity of elephants for the perahera and the problems
confronted at the Getambe ferry where the water cutting ritual is
held.
The
newly elected Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela Bandara and
Basnayake Nilames H.M. Navaratne, Ranjith Ellegala, Mohan Panabokke
and Rohan Paranagama called on the President to report the successful
conclusion of the Kandy Esala Perahera. Premier Mahinda Rajapakse
was also present.
