Five star comfort at Galle “Prison”
The tsunami-affected Galle prison is to be converted into a super luxury hotel where tourists can go through a real ‘prison experience,’ according to Southern Province Governor by Kingsley T. Wickremaratne .

Speaking at the opening session of the CMA Business Management Conference last week, he said the prison would be shifted to another location and a hotel will come up on this site. “The hotel guest would be provided with a jumpsuit upon entering the hotel, complete with a number,” he said. In addition the stewards would be dressed as prison wardens to further bring about the concept and mindset of a prisoner.

He said Galle City is receiving a face lift with suggestions from Ashley De Vos, the renowned architect. This includes the Galle railway station being refurbished to maintain its old world charm.
