Election
officials briefed by polls chief
Assistant Election Commissioners who are in the tsunami affected
districts and uncleared areas in the North and East have been given
instructions on how to conduct the forthcoming Presidential Elections.
Election
Commissioner Dayananada Dissanayake who had brief discussions with
the Assistant Election Commissioners at his Secretariat last Tuesday,
has stated that they can set up cluster polling stations and alternative
polling booths in government-controlled areas for the voters in
tsunami affected and Tiger-controlled areas in the North and East.
Mr.
Dissanayake also gave instructions that voters who are living in
LTTE-controlled areas can be provided free transport to bring them
to the closest polling station.
For
the tsunami displaced voters in the South who are living in temporary
shelters the Commissioner will open up polling stations at the nearest
temples, schools and community centres.
Voters
who have been displaced and are living in other districts can apply
for their ballot papers in the current district.
