No polls during Ramazan says EC
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake has assured Minister A.H.M. Fowzie that the forthcoming presidential election would not be held between October 3 and November 5.

Mr. Dissanayake was responding to the Minister who had asked that the election should be avoided during the upcoming Muslim holy month of Ramazan.

Minister Fowzie in his letter had requested the Commissioner to fix the date for the polls either before the commencement of Ramazan or after the end of the fasting month.

Minister Fowzie told The Sunday Times that Mr. Dissanayake had assured the polls would not be held during the fasting month.
