Norochcholai
no, coal power yes: UNP
The UNP will honour the agreement between Sri Lanka and China for
the Norochcholai coal power plant, but will insist on its relocation.
Assistant
General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said the UNP was not opposed
to the coal power plant but to its location in Norochcholai, as
there were environmental and social hazards.
He
said farmers, fisherfolk and others in Norochcholai and surrounding
areas were opposing the project and the UNP felt their opposition
was valid.
He said the UNP welcomed the Chinese funding but would press for
an alternate location instead of the fertile area in Norochcholai.
