Schools’
rugby ‘Kings’ dethroned
By Bernie Wijesekera
St. Anthony’s College Katugastota, one of the strongest schools
rugby teams this season, will clash with St.Peter's College Colombo
in the final of the Schools Sevens final at the Singer SriLankan
Airlines Seventh annual rugby sevens (Asian Region IRB Satellite)
event to be worked off today at Nittawela.
St.Peter's were in a class of their own as they downed Isipathana
in the second semi-final at 17-0. St. Anthony’s downed another
strong side, Kingswood in the Schools Cup semi-final. Despite the
muddy conditions the matches provided exciting fare which was lapped
up the fans. Since both St. Anthony’s and Kingswood were power-houses
in schools rugby, the clash between these two sides aroused a lot
of interest and the Antonians overcame Kingswood 17-0 with a superior
brand of Sevens rugby.
Sri
Lanka outplayed
A stronger and fitter Chinese Taipei Sevens rugby outfit outplayed
Sri Lanka 26-0 to enter the Cup quarter finals in the International
event.
Sri Lanka had a fair share of success in Group D when they drubbed
Guam 59-0 but came a cropper against Chinese Taipei who, with their
fleet footed players, ran in seven goals and two tries.

Korea in a quarter-final clash.
