"Sigiri Gee", a cassette and CD with the songs of the
late Sunil Santha, the innovative singer and composer will be released
at National Musaeum auditorium at 4.00 pm on Monday, September 12.
Some
of his popular compositions are included in the cassette and the
CD to be releaseed. Graduating from Bathkande Music Academy India
Sunil Santha joined the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC)
and sang Kirilla Saha Kuduwa, Paduwane Naywane and Adara Nadiye
in 1946. Protesing the decision taken by the then authorities to
categorize Sri Lankan singers by an Indian musician, Sunil Santha
was punished and his programmes were stopped from being broadcast.
Away from SLBC for fifteen years from 1952 to 1967, Sunil Santha
did many experiments in music. Among the experimental compositions
he created was the music he set for Sigiri Kurutu Gee. According
to Sunil Santha the music he set using only four musical notes was
the world's first time experiment.
