Mahinda
scotches dissolution rumours
By L.B.Senaratne
Prime Minister and SLFP Presidential candidate Mahinda
Rajapakse scotched rumours of a dissolution of Parliament and said
there is no necessity for President Chandrika Kumaratunga to dissolve
Parliament before the Presidential election or after.
He
said that when he is elected President he would not dissolve Parliament
since there is a comfortable majority in the House.
Prime
Minister Rajapakse was speaking at the Central Province Governor's
Complex to members of the Professional Trade Union Federation and
the Kandy District Sauhbagiya Association, on Saturday afternoon.
The meeting was presided over by Provincial Councillor Mahinda Abeykoon.
The
Prime Minister said there was a malicious mud-slinging campaign
against him and even his family members, by the Opposition. He said
his desire was to unify the country and see that it progresses on
all fronts.
He
also said there was no Muslim boys’ school in Kandy
and added he would attend to this shortcoming once he is elected
President.
