Police
grill youth who posed as PM’s son
By Shane Seneviratne
An arms dealer’s son who allegedly posed as Prime Minister
Mahinda Rajapakse’s son was yesterday questioned by the police
in Kandy.
Police
were called by the management of a five star hotel in Kandy after
the youth allegedly misbehaved with three females who accompanied
him to the hotel leading to suspicion about his identity.
The
youth drove into the hotel in a Prado with a Defender vehicle as
back-up and five security guards, leading to the belief that he
was the Prime Minister’s son. The security men wore clothes
similar to those worn by security of top politicians.
However
when the youth misbehaved in the hotel lobby area with the females
the staff felt suspicious about his identity. Police arrived and
checked his identity and established that he was not Mr. Rajapakse’s
son.
He
was identified as 21 year-old Dilruwan Rajapakse. A team led by
Headquarters Inspector Edmund Mahendra was last night questioning
the youth and the other members of the party. It was revealed that
one girl was a judge’s daughter.
HQI
Mahendra said police were investigating the complaint lodged by
the hotel that the youth had posed as the Prime Minister’s
son. CID officers had searched the room where Dilruwan and two of
his male companions had stayed overnight.
