Julius
and Creasy gets new head
Julius and Creasy, the law firm founded in 1879 and which in its
125th year in 2004 was named the most sought-after law firm by the
nation's leading LMD 50 Listed Companies has now Nihal Hubert Gunaratna
at the helm.
Mr. Gunaratna who has been appointed the Senior Partner with effect
from October 1, this year, joined the firm on October 1, 1960 having
passed out from Ceylon Law College with First Class Honours after
being placed first in the final examination. He was admitted as
a Partner on April 1, 1979 in the centenary year of the firm.
Mr.
Gunaratna represented the firm as the only Sri Lankan delegate at
Euromoney's Asian International Law School Workshop on Law Firm
Management in June 2000 in Singapore and at Euromoney's Workshop
on Management and Leadership in the 21st Century in December 2002
in Hongkong attended by many lawyers in the Asia Pacific region.
Apart
from his academic success, which began at S. Thomas' College Gurutalawa
where he was prefect and athlete, he was Editor of the Law College
Buddhist Annual in 1958. His continued editorial efforts resulted
in the compilation of many publications in the 60s and 70s for the
S. Thomas' College Old Boys' Association, chief among them being
the Centenary Number of the S. Thomas' College Old Boys' Association
in 1986.
He
was a Co-Compiler of 'A History of a Hundred Years of the Royal-S.Thomas'
Cricket Match' published in the Centenary Year 1979 as well as a
Co-Compiler of the 'History of the Royal-S. Thomas' Cricket Match
- 125' published in October 2003. Mr. Gunaratna who is the son of
the late Dr. Hubert Gunaratne of Weligama is married with a son
and a daughter.
