Sivaram
killing: Court wants full report
Kaduwela Magistrate Ms. Champa Janaki Rajaratne last week told Colombo
Crime Division (CCD) officers not to come out with any more excuses
but to submit a full report, on the next date, on the investigation
into the killing of popular journalist and senior editor at Tamilnet,
Dharmaretnam Sivaram.
Mr. Sivaram was abducted opposite a restaurant at Bambalapitiya
by unknown persons in a vehicle and his body was found the next
day close to the Parliamentary Complex.
According
to police the vehicle used for committing the crime was traced subsequently
and found to be owned by former Parliamentarian and PLOTE leader
Dharmalingam Sidharthan. The magistrate directed Parliament Secretary
General Ms. Priyani Wijesekara to submit a report on the ownership
of the vehicle. At the previous hearing Court ordered the release
of the vehicle but the owner did not turn up to claim it.
The
only suspect arrested so far is one Sriskandarajah who was in possession
of the SIM card of the mobile phone used by Mr. Sivaram. He was
not in a position to explain how he came to possess the card.
The
suspect was not brought to courts due to security reasons. On an
earlier occasion counsel M.L.M.Ameen PC., appearing for the suspect
had requested that the case be moved to the High Court at Avissawella
to obtain bail but no decision was made. The next hearing is on
October 25.
