Junior Boxing Nationals semi-finals
Seevali MMV take early lead

Seevali MMV Ratnapura, Royal Colombo, and two schools from Kandy, Vidyartha and Kimgswood along with Vidyartana SC Horana came on top at the third day’s progress of the Junior National Boxing Championship being held at the Royal College boxing ring in Reid Avenue.

Of the ten semi finals that were worked off Seevali MMV had three and Royal had two of their boxers advancing to the finals. The three Seevali boxers to enter the finals were P.P.R.S.Patabendi in the Lightweight under 48kgs who defeated M.A.G.K. Jayakody of YMCA Kandy, T.M.D.T. Wimalajeewa outfoxed R.M.A.M. Illukkumbura in the Super Heavyweight over 91kgs and S.D. Senaratne beat H.D.R.B. Prasad of Royal in the Bantamweight under 54kgs.
The two boxers to qualify from Royal were G.W.I. Chaturanga who beat R.K. Illangakoon in the Lightweight under 48kgs and C.M. Hettiarachchi beat Y.P. Peiris of Trinity in the Light Heavyweight under 81kgs.

Kingswood had D.K.P. Dammika overcoming I.R.A. Illukumbura of Seevali MMV to enter the Heavyweight under 91kgs while A.Chaturanga of Carey defeated D.M. Bandara of Dharmaraja in the other semi final of the same category. But Dharmaraja had a finalist in W.M.A.M.Jayawardena who beat W.N.P. Perera of Seevali MMV in the Light Heavyweight under 81kgs.

The second semi-final of the Super Heavyweight over 91kgs was won by A.T.B. Samarasekera of Vidyaratna SC Horana defeating N.M.A. Anuruddha of Carey. R.M.A.B. Gunatileke of Vidyartha took the second semi final of the Bantamweight under 54kgs with a win over S. Deldeniya of Peradeniya BC.
Seevali MMV Ratnapura were leading closely followed by Royal. Last year’s champions Vidyaratana Horana are lying fourth at this stage. The championship will come to an end today with the 11 finals scheduled to be held starting from 5.30 p.m.
