‘Sahara Adventure’ at the Majestic
The action adventure 'Sahara' based on Clive Cussler's novel distributed by the CEL will be released at Majestic Cinema Colombo from the second week of October.

The movie directed by Breck Eisner, produced by Howard Baldwin, Karen Baldwin, Mace Neufeld and Stephanie Austin is a story that revolves round two treasure hunts -a beautiful woman is hunting a microbe and a handsome explorer is hunting for a ship lost more than 100 years ago.

The beautiful doctor is Eva Rojas (Penelope Cruz) of the World Health Organization. She is an epidemiologist seeking the source of a mysterious disease that is killing people quickly. No one takes her seriously except for her dedicated colleague (Glynn Turman) and a mysterious turbaned man who is stalking her.

The second treasure hunt is for a Confederate Civil War ship that Dirk thinks made it all the way to Africa as the Confederacy was falling and is now buried in a desert. In the middle of all this is the corrupt French industrialist Yves (Lambert Wilson).

The cast includes Matthew McConaughey (Dirk Pitt), Penelope Cruz (Dr. Eva Rojas), Steve Zahn (Al Giordino), Dayna Cussler (Kitty Mannock), Delroy Lindo, William H. Macy, Glynn Turman and Lambert Wilson.

Screenplay by Josh Friedman, Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and James V. Hart and the cinematographed by Clint Mansell. Sahara had its worldwide release in April this year. The adventure film revolves around a team that went on a rescue mission.

Production of Sahara with a budget in the $100 million range started on February 2004 in Morocco with six weeks filming in Nambia before moving on to sets and locations in Spain and the United Kingdom.

An African dictator's nuclear waste disposal plant is mutating the red tide, and so threatens the planet's ecosystem. It's up to Dirk Pitt and his associates from NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency) to find the source of the pollution and shut down the operation.

Master explorer Dirk Pitt (Mathew McConaughey) takes on the adventure of his life when he embarks on a treasure hunt through some of the most dangerous regions of West Africa. Searching for what the locals call "The Ship of Death", a long lost Civil War battleship which contains a secret cargo, Pitt and his wisecracking sidekick (Steve Zahn) use their wits and clever heroics to help Doctor Eva Rojas when they realize the ship may be linked to mysterious deaths in the same area.

Matthew McConaughey plays Dirk, a former Navy SEAL with a wisecracking best pal (wisecracker extraordinaire Steve Zahn as Al Giordano). They work for steely-eyed former Admiral Sandecker (William H. Macy), seeking sunken treasure, rescuing beautiful doctors, expediting regime change and otherwise causing headaches and saving days. We know they must be cool because they are irreverent and play rock music very loud and know all kinds of clever Navy SEAL manoeuvers. And because everyone else is just too corrupt or incompetent or blind to get things done.
