Gender
equality at the workplace
Company policy guidelines on gender equality in management and the
workplace, based on an ILO research study done by Ms. Maithree Wickremasinghe,
wife of Opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe, and Dr Wijeya Jayatilaka
will be discussed at a meeting in Colombo this week
The ILO, in collaboration with the Employers’ Federation of
Ceylon (EFC) is launching the policy on Tuesday. Wickremasinghe
and Jayatilaka also drafted the guidelines.
The
research study found that while women’s participation in the
labour market has certainly risen in the last few decades, the tendency
remains for men and women to be employed in different occupations,
with usually women in the lower - and men in the higher ranks.
