Duckworth
and Lewis see SSC through
By Marlon Fernandopulle
SSC clinched the inaugural twenty–twenty championship when
they defeated Chilaw Marians on the Duckworth-Lewis method after
rain and bad light .brought a premature halt to the final at the
Moratuwa Stadium yesterday.
Chilaw Marians who won the toss and batted first were restricted
to 144 for 9 wickets with Malintha Gajanayake and Charith Sylvester
each contributing 44 runs.Gajanayake thumped three boundaries and
two sixes in his 31 ball knock while wicket keeper Sylvester stroked
two boundaries and two sixes in his 40 ball innings.
SSC
needing to score over seven runs per over reached 53 for 1 wicket
in 6.5 overs when rain and bad light halted play. According to the
Duckworth-Lewis method SSC required only 45 runs at the time play
was called off. Hence, the Maitland Place club led by Avishka Gunawardene
was declared winners.
