Ashawari: Battle of two families
Ashawari a love story between two youngsters from two extreme family backgrounds; one a law-abiding policeman's and the other a businessman's involving in illegal activities telecast every Monday at the 9.00 pm belt on Swarnavahini Channel.

Sriyantha Mendis, Wasanthi Chathurani, Chathurika Periris, Jihan Jeer, Wasantha Kumarasiri and Suneetha Wimalaweera are in the major cast.
Stephen Levella, a law abiding Inspector of police is the head of an upcountry aristocratic family. Janaki his wife and daughter Asha live with Stephen in Colombo. One day the girl meets Dayan and develops a friendship.
This later turns into a love affair. Gerard, Dayan father is involved in a number of illegal businesses.

One day Dayan and Asha while they were on the beach get caught to Stephen and there Dayan is severely assaulted by the girl's father. Gerard who hears this makes a visit to meets Inspector Stephen and there he declares his son's intention to marry his daughter. Angered by this proposal from a noted racketeer Stephen chases Gerard away. To avenge this, Gerard using his political and financial influence transfers Stephen to the North. Disgusted with this and whole police service, Stephen resigns and moves to his upcountry house with his family.

While leading a relaxed life there the monk in the village temple requests him to enter into politics. This was due to the respect and the recognition that he has from the people in the area and the experiences he had had as a police officer.

Having heard about this Gerard does his best to disrupt the election campaign of Stephen. Despite all these distractions Stephen wins at the election and with the influence he tries to take revenge on Gerard. He thinks that this way he could stop his daughter's connection with Dayan.

Gerard first sends his son Dayan abroad and cooks a plot to destroy Stephen's image and reputation. For this he hires a woman Jayanthi Menika and sends her to work at Stephen's election office. At the instigation of Gerard, Jayanthi Menike is compelled to start an affair with Stephen. Stephen falls an easy prey to Gerard's ploy.

Janaki with her daughter leaves Stephen and goes to her ancestral home. Stephen becomes a drunkard and falls ill. What would be the fate of Asha and her mother? What will happen to Dayan and Asha's affair? Will Asha come to know about the man behind the downfall of his family?

These and many other questions will be answered at the end of the twenty four episode teledrama. ‘Ashawari’ script by Shantha Soyza is directed by Janaka Dominco and produced by Ajani Perera.
