Ranil:
Airport for Wellawaya, port for Oluvil
UNP Presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday declared
that he would reconstruct all tsunami damaged houses within a year
and pledged to make Kalmunai a model city like Kandy and Anuradhapura.
Mr. Wickremesinghe addressing a rally in Kalmunai said he would
also form a separate Muslim unit for the uplift of the poor Muslim
fisherfolk and farmers.
“This is like a regional centre for all Muslims. Any poor
Muslim can claim their basic needs,” he said.
The Opposition Leader outlined his plans for an airport in Wellawaya
and a harbour at Oluvil. Mr. Wickremesinghe said he believed that
airport and the harbour would link the communities.
Ranil
Wickremesinghe also addressed a rally in Wellawaya where he declared
that one of his top priorities would be restoring peace and ending
poverty.
He said one of the best ways to improve the country was to improve
the infrastructure in the regions which would in turn generate more
employment and more opportunities to the villages.
The UNP leader was due in Nuwara Eliya last evening but due to bad
weather he could not attend the rally there. However he addressed
the gathering over the telephone enabling the people to listen to
him over the public address system.
Mr.
Wickremesinghe assured the people of Nuwara Eliya that he would
develop the area and create more jobs for the people.
