Flight
delay: Commandos called to airport
SriLanka Airlines is willing to consider paying compensation for
passengers who were caught up in a 15 hour flight delay this week
and staged a protest, its Corporate Communication head Chandana
de Silva told The Sunday Times.
He said that no passengers of the particular flight from Kuwait
via Dubai had so far asked for compensation and that they could
consider it if any passengers appealed to them officially in writing.
He
added that the flight delay was due to a technical fault. The flight
which was scheduled to arrive at the Bandaranaike International
Airport at 5.30 am arrived only at about 8.00 pm. Most of the passengers
were on transit to India.
On
arrival they had refused to get off the flight prompting the authorities
to switch off the airconditioning inside the aircraft and to call
for the assistance of commandos to evict the passengers.
