Lost
opportunity
The new Transport Minister A.H.M.Fowzie visited the Kesbewa bus
depot last week to inquire about the difficulties faced by the employees
there. The SLFP organiser for the area Chandana Kathriaratchchi
also turned up at the scene but he had politics on his mind.
Ignoring
the grievances raised by the employees, Mr. Kathriaratchci went
on to make it a political platform which soon angered the minister
who asked him to stop this kind of talk, but he ignored the minister’s
request and carried on. The end result was the annoyed minister
walked out half way into the meeting and angry employees were heard
cursing that the opportunity they had to air their grievances had
been lost.
Empty handed
Mr. Fowzie also visited the President last week with a
group of Muslim businessmen to recommend their appointment as heads
of some Departments under his purview. The President had dismissed
him saying that “I have given you a very good Ministry, so
try to improve that instead of trying to get others involved.”
So the disappointed minister had to go away empty handed..
