Shuttle power all the way
By Harry Jayachandra
Shuttle power it was all the way at S. Thomas’ College Gym
yesterday. The 23rd annual mercantile badminton tournament sponsored
by CIC for the seventh successive year got off to a fine star.
Hatton
National Bank made it through to the final against rivals Seylan
Bank in the Women’s “A” Division. They had to
overcome the might of John Keells in the league stages.
In
the Women’s “B” Division, Union Bank of Pakistan
sprang a surprise by entering the final. They will meet Mclarens
who as is obvious also made it through the group stages. The Women’s
“C” Division will see Janashakthi face off with data
entry.
The
Women’s Veterans final proved to be a disappointment. Hatton
National Bank handed McLarens a walk over.
It
was a day where the shuttlers put their work pressure aside to serve
the spectators with some spectacular Badminton. A typical example
was the Men’s “F: Division where Aitken Spence made
it through to the final. They will face stiff opposition in the
form of Seylan Bank “E”. The finals will take place
tomorrow.
