Unite
to defeat terror: JVP
The JVP in its New Year message declared that its hope for 2006
would be that all patriotic citizens in the country would unite
in a bid to defeat terrorism.
“If
all patriotic forces unite in 2006 to defeat terrorism that would
be a victory for the country”, the message from JVP’s
Politburo said. “The New Year is being ushered in at a time
when the world is facing social, economic and political challenges.
As Sri Lankans we too have to meet these challenges. It is important
to note that some of them have been created by history and left
behind”.
“We
should realize that we are welcoming the year 2006 to prepare to
complete the incomplete tasks for the wellbeing of humankind. “One
of our main tasks would be to meet the challenges posed by terrorists.
We have to protect the sovereignty and unitary status of the country
and develop the nation. We should meet the direct challenges posed
by the terrorists.
Avoiding
these challenges would mean that the country is bowing down to terrorism.
“Therefore as a nation the New Year should be used to bring
unity with the aim of defeating terrorism. We cannot proceed as
a nation unless this is achieved. Without meeting the challenges
which follow we cannot gain victory and we hope 2006 will be the
year we could achieve something new by facing the challenges”,
the message said.
