for Ananda

There were no crackers or the normal revelry associated with the
greeting of the New Year as Ananda led admirably by Sri Lanka under19
wicket-keeper, batsman Chathura Herath notched their third outright
win for 2005 when they crushed Dharmapala, Pannipitiya in the Inter-School
cricket match at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.
Ananda
sent into bat amassed 277 for 5 and declared on the first day.
Opener D.N. Athulathmudali cracked 91 in 114 balls and was finally
run out. He was the mainstay in the Ananda batting cracking 14 fours.
Chathuranga Herath (50 n.o) and Gayan Rupasinghe (a hard hit 64
with six fours and four sixes) boosted the total.
Dharmapala
in reply were bowled out for 148.P. Hewage stood out with 40. Left
arm spinner Malith Gunatilleke was among the wickets again with
5 for 34 and this caused the debacle. Forced to follow on, the Palians
fell easy prey to lanky paceman Gayan Rupasinghe, who had a match
haul of 8 for 43. Malith Gunatilleke had a match bag of 8 for 79
and the Dharmapala lads were bowled out for 117 in their second
innings. Thus they crashed by an innings and 12 runs shortly after
the tea break.
A
feature of this game was the excellent keeping by Chathura Herath
who had seven victims (two stumped and five caught behind).
Ananda’s
earlier outright wins in 2005 were over Trinity and Tissa MV Kalutara
On January 6 and 7 Ananda will play host to St.Peter’s at
Ananda Mawatha.

5 for 15, Udara Peiris 2 for 21, M.Gunatilleke 3 for 45).
Pussegolla
shines in drawn game

Thomian Shashrika Pussegolla slammed his second successive century
of the season cracking 111 in the drawn Elephant Lemonade inter-school
cricket match against Richmond concluded at Mt Lavinia yesterday.
Taking
first lease of the wicket, the Richmond lads scored 195 and in reply
the Thomians made 234.
