‘AMAZING
GRACE’ IN CONCERT
Sri Lankan music lovers are in for another glorious treat when the
spotlight falls on a frontline group of yesteryear. Amazing Grace
will come alive in their reunion concert on January 22 at BMICH
at 6.30 pm.
Damayantha
Kuruppu of DR Entertainments who brought the Jetliners in a re-union
concert and packed the BMICH with a "House Full" on two
days back to back, now bring back the music sensation of the 1970s
to thrill those who would be looking for entertainment. Yes, Amazing
Grace will be back to perform in Sri Lanka after 30 years, not only
reviving memories in the minds of the audiences that they took by
storm three decades ago, but providing to the now generation that
they've got what it takes to provide extraordinary entertainment.
Amazing
Grace in concert, will provide just the right introduction to entertainment
in the New Year. Naturally, Master of Ceremonies of the highest
calibre would have to adorn a show that enjoys the highest rating.
Vijaya Corea, who will introduce Tony de Silva, Donald Peiris, Benjamin
Ranabahu, Reza Dean and Harsha Markalande - the fabulous ‘Amazing
Grace’.
Amazing
Grace began under the management of Augie Ranaweera in the year
1970. The initial formation of the group included Joey Lewis who
was replaced in quick succession by Rodney Rabot and finally by
Reza Dean. It was at this time that everybody trekked to the Little
Hut to stomp their feet, throw their hands up and enjoy the music
of Amazing Grace who were right on top of the entertainment scene.
In
the year 1976, the 4 piece outfit took on music maestro Harsha Markalande
to produce his magic on the keyboard. Lovers of music that came
under the brand name "pop" were simply magnetised by the
exclusive musical capabilities of Amazing Grace who are to this
day, remembered for their supreme renditions of ‘Long Train
Running’, ‘On Broadway’, ‘Feeling Alright’
‘Eas’,, ‘Jump’,’Music’,’Cowboy’
and ‘Hotel California’ to name a few.
