TUs
put brakes on CPC luxury vehicle purchase
A move to purchase two luxury vehicles for the Ceylon Petroleum
Corporation (CPC) at a cost of Rs. 25 million has been shelved after
trade unions there threatened strike action.
Tenders
had been called from two private vehicle importers to purchase the
two jeeps, a four-wheel luxury Montero costing Rs. 13 million and
a Nissan petrol jeep costing Rs.12 million.
However,
when Corporation trade union members got wind of the deal initiated
by a “VIP”, they had threatened to go on strike following
which the matter had been stalled for the moment.
