Premier
League Cricket
Bad light brings early closure
The ten Premier League encounters played around the island was called
off early due to bad light with all the matches being stopped at
4.30 p.m. Chilaw Marians helped by two useful partnerships fought
their way back on the second day’s play of the Premier League
cricket match against Colts played at the Colts grounds. It was
Malintha Gajanayake who came to the rescue of the Marians making
an unbeaten 65 being involved in both the partnerships.
With Hasantha Fernando he put on a stand of 97 for the fifth wicket
and with Gayan Wijekoon an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 50 enabling
the side to finish on 206 for 5. In the morning session Colts resuming
on their overnight score of 155 for 5 went on to make 215 with overnight
batsman Malinda Warnapura making 92 n.o. in reply to the Marians
162 in the first innings.
The
encounter between Tamil Union and NCC at the P. Sara Stadium is
set for an interesting finish with the latter being set a target
of 297 for victory with them having the entire day. At the R. Premadasa
Stadium Ragama CC put in another top performance when they got the
better of the strong Bloomfield in the first innings. The Bloomfielders
have a fight in their hands when play resumes today.
At
Rifle Green Sebastianites amassed a massive 431 with Amila Sandaruwan
making 136 and Lankan CC in their turn were 216 for 5. SSC have
recorded a first innings win over last week’s giant killers
Panadura while Moors who made 301 too have already obtained a first
innings having bowled out CCC for 175. First innings wins have been
secured by Saracens and Badureliya CC over Air Force and Police
with the match at the BRC grounds and Galle not completed yet. The
match at Galle was called off at 2.30 p.m. due to heavy shower.
