Here to hold a seminar on the ‘joy
of healing’ are two German healers and counsellors who describe
their work as a process of self -discovery and revelation

At some point in our lives, we are all forced to consider what we
want most from life. We ask ourselves what would make our lives
more meaningful and we each find our own answers. Some of us simply
want a home to call our own, others want recognition and professional
success, some wish their children happiness, others crave health.
While
some dreams are simple and some are complex, many are longings people
the world over have in common. Whatever the case may be, each of
these dreams seems to boil down to one simple emotion – joy
- all of us want to live joyous, liberated lives.
But
how does one get to that point? The choices are as diverse as they
are varied. There are, for instance, the religious beliefs, the
physical practices, the emotional experiences and the spiritual
aspects – which all, individually or together, offer one the
path to enlightenment.
Shedding
some light on one facet – that of the spiritual – are
two German healers and counsellors, Leela Isani and Satya Wilmsen
who will be holding a seminar titled “The Joy of Healing”
at the Taj Samudra Hotel on January 18.
They have christened the seminar a “Deeksha” event –
the Sanskrit word for ‘initiation’. “We hope to
initiate people into the wonders of energy-transmission,”
says Satya, going on to add that it is ultimately a process of self-discovery
and revelation. One that does not just stop at a mental knowing
but is instead carried through into the physical plane.
“This
technique has been used to heal people with insomnia or with diseases
such as diabetes,” reveals Leela, adding that the practice
is particularly beneficial for illnesses linked to the nervous system.
Such
“energy transfers” are innate to us humans, explain
the two friends, whose sessions include much one on one “transmission”.
Such exchanges are sometimes done through physical contact - “we
lay our hands on them,” says Leela – or sometimes through
simply keeping eye contact, adds Satya. While it is natural to compare
the practice with others we have come across, they recommend not
labelling the whole process and instead allowing oneself to just
flow through it. “This is not ‘better’ than practices
like reiki,” says Satya, adding that it is however, considerably
simpler while having comparable beneficial effects.
For
the sceptic, such a process will still have a powerful impact, says
Satya, adding that she has seen many people, while initially wary,
ending up deeply moved by their experiences. “We ourselves
simply work as channels for the energy,” says Leela.
Both
Leela and Satya are comparatively recent initiates into the technique
and find their work very rewarding. Both have also travelled extensively,
both together and alone and seen a great deal of the world. Both
women have numerous other interests; Leela, for instance is an author
with three books to her credit: The Tiger Woman, The Feast of the
Senses and Heavy Body and Soul Training.
Leela,
who has lived in India for 10 years, immersed herself in numerous
spiritual pursuits – visiting temples and ashrams and learning
from gurus residing there. The two of them have also taken groups
on spiritual guide tours to parts of India, such as Madhya Pradesh.
One thing is for certain, both Leela and Satya want to come back
here and spend as much time as possible. In particular they have
two wishes dear to their hearts – the first is a centre in
Colombo which will make it possible for people to gather together
and share their spiritual knowledge and the second some seminars
directed exclusively at helping women liberate and nurture themselves.
Satya
and Leela believe that enlightenment is one’s natural state
and that they can help one find an easy way to experience it. Those
