Now it’s either Sri Lanka or England
West Indies won the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy at The Oval
Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay) and Calcutta will host ICC Champions Trophy matches in September, with the final in Mumbai. ICC president Ehsan Mani said the Indian cricket board had not raised the issue of abolishing the tournament, despite reports it would do.

The "Mini World Cup" was launched in 1998 to raise funds for international cricket development projects.

West Indies are the current holders, after an upset win over England in the final at The Oval in September 2004. A new format will see eight teams split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group qualifying for the semi-finals and final.

The eight teams in the competition will comprise the top six sides in the ICC ODI Championship table on 1 April 2006, plus the top two teams from an initial qualifying round.

Either Sri Lanka or England will be forced to qualify, depending on their performances in the next three months.
