Maligaspe dazzle for Royal

Royal openers Sukitha Senaratne (77 in 120 balls, 5 fours and one
six) and Malinga Maligaspe (64, with five fours) were associated
in an entertaining stand and in the process, helped them to total
267 for 8 and declare at tea in their 107th encounter against St.
Joseph’s on the first day of the inter-school cricket match
at Reid Avenue yesterday.
The
Josephians in reply were 110 for 4 at close.Sukitha Senaratne, the
batsman in form, who scored a spicy 53 against Nalanda, maintained
his consistency. Maligaspe weighed in with a workman-like 64.
For
two successive years the Josephians had outclassed Royal with outright
wins. Royal this year are a better disciplined lot under coach Chulaka
Amarasinghe. They matched their rivals with discipline and determination.
After being 161 for 1, Royal went on the run hunt to open out the
game before they declared.
The
Joes in reply were 110 for 4 with Roshanne Silva unbeaten on 39.
Mowjood captured 2 for 27 for the Royalists.
