‘Dangamalla’:
Tale of a naughty girl on TV

'Dangamalla', teledrama based on the translation of the British
Author, Enid Blyton's "The Naughtiest Girl in the School"
starts from January 29 on the Swarnavahini.
Directed
by Nalaka Swarnathilake the translation into Sinhala was done by
Ganga Niroshini Suduwelikanda. Blyton's book, translated into many
languages around the world is popular among the young and the old
alike. Earlier the Sinhala translation was first produced as a programme
on Lakhanda Radio with the participation of Senior lecturer Attanayake
M. Herath of the Sinhala Department of the University of Peradeniya.
The story was later produced as a stage play under the same title.
Woven
around young mischievous Elizabeth Allan, the drama portrays how
her surrounding, school, friends and music changes her to be a better
and obedient girl.
Coming
from an affluent family Elizabeth prefers to live alone. She detests
all her colleagues and envies them all. Yet she is a bright and
intelligent girl. Her unending mischief makes her to change schools
one by one. This ends when she comes to "White Leaf" a
school different from many she had been to earlier. This punishment
free institution teaches the pupils to correct their own faults.
Elizabeth though continuing with her unending mischievousness does
not get the punishment she expects from 'White Leaf'.
"Dangamalla"
is produced for Swarnavahini by Ruchira Liyanarachchi of R. S. Video,
Kalubowila. Natasha Perera who played the main role in the play
and received the Best Actress Award at the National Children's Drama
Festival in 2003 will play the main role in the miniplay.
Young
Natasha Perera plays the main role together with sixty five children
cast from twenty six schools including Dinithi Doranegoda, Hasini
Nanayakkara, Rashenika de Silva, Tiran Gurusinghe, Shashin Weerathunga,
Sithija Himal and Poorna Nikethani. In addition the popular actors
and actresses that are playing the lead roles are Kusum Renu, Ramani
Siriwardena, Sanoja Bibile, Rebecca Nirmali, Malkanthi Jayasekera,
Athula Pathirana and Varuni Madhupani.
Shooting of the teledrama was done towards the end of 2005 at the
location of St Thomas' College, Guruthalawa and Bandarawela.
