Captain’s
ton helps Wesley make bold reply
As the bells chimed at All Saints Church, Wesley were celebrating
a famous comeback and possible moral victory over S. Thomas’.
Led by their Captain and opener Charitha Karunaratne, Wesley overhauled
the Thomian first innings score 309 for 9 declared. The Campbell
Park boys were eventually bowled out for 315.
Karunaratne
hit a belligerent 114 off 118 balls inclusive of 18 fours and 3
sixes. More importantly he was involved in two crucial partnerships.
The first was 81 runs for the second wicket with Anoj Katapearachchi
who made 23. Shakthi Siriratne then joined his skipper. These two
put on 88 runs for the third wicket. In the latter stages of the
Wesley innings, Lahiru Peiris made 57.

Colombage was the most successful bowler for S. Thomas’ with
4 for 69. The most impressive though was Ruchira de Silva who claimed
two wickets. De Silva finished with two for 16 runs, while S. Gnanaskandan
took two for 52 runs. S. Thomas’ batting a second time made
106 for 3 with first innings centurion Shashrika Pussegolla once
again top scoring with 33 runs.
