Kandy
juggernaut marches on
By Shamseer Jaleel
The defending champions Kandy SC once again looked the most accomplished
side when they amassed a huge 133 points in just three first round
matches on the first day of the Singer Professional Club Rugby sevens
at Longden Place yesterday.
Fielding
a virtual national team which comprised Sanjeewa Jayasinghe, Sajith
and Bandula Mallikarachchi, Amjad Buksh, Chamara Vithanage and national
youth player Eranda Weerakko- dy, Kandy annihilated all opposition
that crossed their path.
In
their opening game Kandy SC beat CH and FC ‘B’ by 43
points to nil. In their second outing the hill country lads cuffed
the cops by a margin of 45 points to 5 and then drowned the sailors
by another huge margin 45 points to 7.
Besides this there were no surprises during the day. The only close
call for the day was the game between Army ‘B’ and CR
and FC ‘A’ which the latter scraped through to a narrow
14-12 victory.
