“Light
an oil lamp for peace’ – CCC, Sarvodaya
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) is joining the Sarvodaya initiative
of lighting an oil lamp this week as a symbol of solidarity to peace
to mark the fourth anniversary of the ceasefire agreement and the
resumption of peace talks.
The
CCC has told its members and affiliated associations to light an
oil lamp in front of their business establishments on the eve of
the peace talks, Tuesday, 21 February, from 7.00 to 10.00 p.m. The
Employers Federation of Ceylon (EFC), the National Chamber of Commerce
of Sri Lanka (NCCSL), the Business for Peace Alliance and the Sri
Lanka First Group are associated with this peace promotion campaign
of the CCC.
Sarvodaya
Executive Director Dr Vinya Ariyaratne in an appeal said all Sri
Lankans could express their support to the ceasefire agreement by
lighting an oil lamp on February 22 at six in the morning and keeping
it alight till six that evening.
“You
may do this at your home, work place, school or at a place of religious
worship. By dedicating yourself to regularly refill the lamp and
keep up a continuous flame of hope for 12 hours, you will show your
solidarity to this important agreement and your individual pledge
to peace in this nation,” he said in a statement.
