Tigers
want more for last PC
The LTTE is to demand the release of four more of their cadres arrested
in Mannar in return for the release of the remaining police constable
in its custody, a LTTE spokesman said yesterday.
The
fresh demand follows yesterday’s release of a police constable
by the LTTE in exchange of four of their cadres released on bail
in Trincomalee on Friday.
The
release of PC Dulip Hemantha took place in Kilinochchi yesterday.
He was handed over to a Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) representative
and was due in Colombo late last evening.
He
was informed that he was being released on the instructions of LTTE
leader Velupillai Prabhakaran as a goodwill gesture ahead of the
commencement of peace talks.
PC
Hemantha left behind his colleague Bandujeewa Bopitigoda. SI K.A.D.
Sarath was released on January 26. On Friday, four LTTE cadres S.
Shanmugaraj, Xavier Ranjit, S.Vijayakumar and L. Aravinthan were
released by the Trincomalee Magistrate V.Ramakamalan on cash and
surety bail.
The
Magistrate ordered their release in cash bail of Rs. 2,000 each
and surety bail Rs. 20,000 with one surety each. Court ordered the
suspects to report to the Trincomalee Police once a week. The van
carrying the LTTE cadres to the Wanni was given police protection
and escorted by the SLMM.
