Wesley’s
gym, a boon to sportsmen
A long felt need for Wesley College, Colombo, a gymnasium saw the
light of day, when it was declared open by the chief guest Rev.
Rohita de Silva on Friday.
The
Principal M.A.P. Fernando speaking on the occasion said that the
Old Wesleyites Sports Club (OWSC) had done a tremendous task in
giving this long felt need to the school. He thanked the OWSC headed
by Parakrama Wijemanne and his committee and the Gynmnasium Project
co-chaired by Ivor Mahroof, Rohan Perera and Secretary Jeremy Brohier
for the hard work they had put in to see the project through.
The
cost of the well equipped gymnasium is Rs. 1.2 million and the main
sponsors are Metropolitan Group. This effort by the OWSC will assist
the present and future sportsmen of Wesley to be fitter, stronger
and to help build stamina.
It
will stand in good stead to match their skills against the best,
pointed out Fernando. “Studies and sports go hand in hand.
Wesley has always been in front and has maintained the dignity of
the institution even under stress,” said Fernando. He thanked
the chief guest Rev. Rohita de Silva and all those present for their
support. The Prefect of Games Kenneth de Silva, proposed the vote
of thanks.
