Voice
of youth for Peace -CCC
The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the Neelan Tiruchelvam
Trust (NTT) have jointly funded a radio programme “Voice of
Youth for Peace,” in the Sinhala, Tamil and English medium.
This initiative is supported by the Canadian International Development
Agency (CIDA), the chamber said.
The
objective of this programme is to educate the public about mechanisms
such as the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA), the cost of war and the dividends
of peace and to encourage youth towards ethnic tolerance and co-existence
by focusing on common interests. Eight weekly radio programmes in
all three languages are being aired over a period of two months
which commenced from February 11. The programmes have just commenced
and include popular music request shows interspersed with information,
quizzes and phone-ins to enable listeners to seek clarification
on issues discussed.
“The
NTT and the CCC having taken into account the common aspiration
of the business circle and civil society for sustainable peace in
Sri Lanka decided to enter into an MoU to promote civil society
initiatives aimed at promoting Peace and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka.
This
joint initiative between business and civic society is aimed at
promoting a multi-sectoral approach to peace making and peace building.
The support and assistance extended by CIDA as part of it efforts
to promote sustainable peace in Sri Lanka is greatly appreciated
by the CCC and NTT,” the chamber statement said.
