Amunugama,
India’s Mahesh Bhatt at Community Leader Awards
Public Administration & Home Affairs Minister Sarath Amunugama
and Mahesh Bhatt, a renowned film maker from India and UNICEF’s
Special Envoy are the top guests attending Tuesday’s prestigious
Community Leader Awards held for the second successive year.
Dr
Amunugama, chief guest, and Mr Bhatt, guest of honour who has flown
down for the occasion, will also address the distinguished audience
on the value of helping education and children at the gala dinner
event organized and presented by CIMA and The Sunday Times Business
Club at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo on February 28.
The
awards this year focuses on enriching education in schools through
private sector initiatives. The awards scheme itself is unique since
CSR awards normally take the entire gamut of activities of all companies.
The CIMA-The Sunday Times Business Club contribution in recognizing
companies over their achievements in CSR is unique because it narrows
down CSR to a specific issue – every year - that concerns
society in which corporate performance would be measured.
Awards
are being presented in the large, medium and small sectors with
a set of special category awards also being made at the discretion
of the judges. The Community Leader Awards launched in 2004 is aimed
at bringing the private sector and the community at large together
in a long-term partnership that would steer responsible business
ethnics and future development of the country.
The
evening’s programme will include a performance from the Sunera
Foundation, a theme song and two others songs with a youthful choir
focusing on children in addition to video clips from UNICEF, CIMA
and a special short film promoting the concept of corporate support
in education. Last year’s top winner was Unilever for excellence
in waste management.
