Girl Guides celebrate Thinking Day 2006
The Colombo District of the Sri Lanka Girl Guide Association celebrated Thinking Day - the joint birthday of the Founders, Lord and Lady Baden Powell - which falls on February 22. It is celebrated in over 145 countries where Guiding is established with special meetings, ceremonies etc. Greetings are exchanged between many countries.

The Colombo District had organized a walk - starting from Ananda Coomarswamy Mawatha towards Lipton Circus and back to the Headquarter with the Lyceum Band leading the walk. More than 800 Senior Guides, Guides and Little Friends participated, carrying banners and flags.

The theme of this year's Thinking Day was 'Girls Worldwide Say "Fight AIDS". Flags of different countries were carried by the guides as each school represented a country.

The Thinking Day meeting started at 9 a.m. Chief Guest,
Ms. Priyani Wijesekera, Secretary General of Parliament, Ms. Thilini Athukorale the Chief Commissioner, and Ms. Kanthi Fernando, Deputy Chief Commissioner, were warmly welcomed by the District and Zonal Commissioners.

The Little Friends of Visakha Vidyalaya performed a 'Grand Salute'. Flags were hoisted after the singing of the World Song.
After the welcome address by Ms. Jayanthi Tillekeratne, Colombo District Commissioner, the Chief Guest addressed the gathering, imparting valuable information about HIV.

Anula Vidyalaya, Hindu Ladies College and Musaeus College presented interesting skits. Delicious preparations of food from different countries were available at the 'Food Fiesta'.
