Two
remanded over student kidnap attempt
Two men suspected of attempting to kidnap a student and offer him
as a sacrifice to locate a treasure, were identified by the would-be
victim at an identification parade in the Kandy Magistrate's court
recently.
The
two men were identified as Udeni Hettiarachchi of Asgiriya and Sanath
Sujeeva of Galagedara.
According
to police, the boy was returning home when the two men in a van
had attempted to kidnap him. However, they had decided he was not
the right choice as he was not the first-born in the family. Police
said his captives had tied him to a tree but the boy had managed
to escape. Another suspect, a person in robes from Bibile, was taken
into custody regarding the attempt and remanded, police said. Of
the duo identified by the victim, one is said to be an Army deserter
while the other was a retired Navy personnel.
Kandy
Magistrate Harsha Sethunga ordered that they be remanded. Galaha
HQI Susil Mallawaarachchi and Inspector Boyagoda are conducting
investigations on the directions of ASP M.B. Mahagedara. - S.S
