Hettiarachchi
captures Celtell classic
Last weeks Golf Tournament at the Ridgeways of the Royal Colombo
Golf Club which was sponsored by Celtell was a smashing success.
The day’s play went off exceptionally well with a few excellent
performances recorded. Nirmal Hettiarachchi, the rebel cricketer
turned golfer, was quite tidy moving methodically to collect 69
beating seasoned campaigner, Bandula Weerasinghe, and taking the
‘A’ Division Classic.
Little
Rao
Akil Rao, a delightfully pleasant and quite talented little fella,
came pretty good to win the ‘B’ Division beating a string
of seasoned adults. He collected a praiseworthy nett 64 beating
Lalinda Dharmaratne by 5 strokes. In the ‘C’ Division
H.N. Kim and Nilkamal Perera tied on nett 66 each. Nilkamal was
unfortunate to be beaten as his rear 9 was not good enough.
Masters
& seniors
Ranjan Gooneratne struck a great nett 67 and won, but could
not attend the award ceremony as he had to cut a deal at a Bridge
table over a dollar game. A.H.Sheriffdeen took a happy second place.
Dr.M.Meevanapalana was loudly applauded by his everloving wife and
guests, as he walked to collect his award after winning the Seniors’
Title with a stunning score of nett 58. Dammika Ratnayake came behind
with nett 70.
Gymkhana events
Niro Dahanayake struck an absolute beauty off the 9th tee.
Dead straight and pin high his shot settled just a foot from the
cup to give him a handsome trophy in the ‘Nearest-to-the-Pin’
Contest. Chubby Mithun Perera, the son of maestro Nandasena Perera,
won the special award for Celltel owners. In his usual style he
cracked a great gross 68.
The
party
Dumindra Ratnayake and Aniljith Singh played absolute hosts after
the guests were met by two ravishing lasses, Vidusshi and Anjalee,
at the entrance to the Clubhouse. The rousing party then began and
eight absolute crackers moved their beaut torsos on the catwalk
in bouncy style to more bouncy, captivating music. A stunning feast
for the eyes, the floor show was outstanding. ‘Flame’,
a great group of performers, played lively music with a few golden
oldies thrown in for good measure. Shane de Zilwa, the man behind
the scenes, did much to put together an excellent evening of refreshing
entertainment.
Awards
Chief Executive Dumindra Ratnayake and bearded Aniljith
Singh distributed the awards, with Sanjeev Perera and Ajantha compering
splendidly. Mylvaganam received a special award for producing the
most attractive pack of confetti from his score card. Aniljith Singh
flies to India after his stunning score of 104 to bolster India’s
chances against England, and T.Wijesekera was recognised for the
sparkle in his score of 129, the highest for the day! It was a superbly
planned-out event - thanks to Celltel, and best wishes for the success
of their plan to improve their stakes in the market.
